The Michigan Wolverines offensive line is getting a great addition, with Kyle Whittingham securing the commitment of four-star recruit Jakari Lipsey. Lipsey is the ninth-best offensive tackle prospect in the nation and the 66th-best overall prospect in the class of 2026. He’s also the second-best recruit in Michigan.
Whittingham and the Wolverines had somewhat of an advantage over the rest of the competition, with Jakari Lipsey being a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan. In the race for the 6’5 290-pound offensive tackle prospect, the Wolverines beat LSU, UCLA, Auburn, and Boston College.
Lipsey is the second four-star recruit the Wolverines get their hands on, the first this year, though. Their previous four-star recruit is edge Recarder Kitchen, who committed to the Wolverines in late November of last year. This is then the first top-tier recruit Whillingham has secured for the Ann Arbor school since taking over Sherrone Moore.
Kyle Whittingham has Urban Meyer’s support for his move to Michigan
It’s not always that you hear a former Ohio State Buckeye support the coach of the Michigan Wolverines, but that’s just what Urban Meyer did for his friend Kyle Whittingham recently. According to Meyer, he’s rooting for Whittingham, and he believes this is exactly the kind of move the Ann Arbor program needed to make:
“Yeah, I’m a Buckeye, so my first thought was, ‘What?’” Meyer said, via On3. “He’s my friend. Kyle and I are really close, but it didn’t take long for me to put two and two together. Not only did I tell him that I think it was a great move, but it was exactly what that school in Ann Arbor needed.”
The two go way back, with Kyle Whittingham having coached under Urban Meyer at Utah as the Utes’ defensive coordinator between 2003 and 2004. He would eventually take over the Utes and was their head coach for 20 years.
