Kirby Smart Secures Thrilling Win In Race For Garrett Nussmeier’s Brother Colton Nussmeier: Report

Garrett Nussmeier may have already left for the NBA, but another Nussmeier is on his way to college football. While the elder brother played for LSU, his younger brother, Colton Nussmeier, will not be heading to Baton Rouge, but will instead head to Georgia to become a Bulldog. This is a massive commitment for Kirby Smart, who has been consistent in delivering the Bulldogs to the CFP.

Of course, he is also the son of former NFL quarterback Doug Nussmeier, who currently works as the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints and used to play for the Indianapolis Colts. As for Colton Nussmeier himself, he is currently a four-star quarterback from the Class of 2027, going to Denton Ryan High School in Denton, Texas.

While his brother famously went to LSU, his father used to work under Kirby Smart over at Georgia, so there is still a big connection there. His commitment to the Bulldogs also gives Kirby Smart his first quarterback from the Class of 2027 and gives him better depth after next season.

Colton Nussmeier chose Georgia over LSU, UCLA, Florida, and Alabama. He officially visited all four schools, with many previously believing he would go with Lane Kiffin over at LSU, but instead went with his dad’s previous team over at Georgia. He is now the 13th commitment that Kirby Smart has from the Class of 2027.

Georgia OC Mike Bobo Led the Charge To Get Colton Nussmeier’s Commitment

While Kirby Smart has a deep connection with his dad, it was noheim who led the charge in Colton Nussmeier’s recruitment, but it was offensive coordinator Mike Bobo instead. When the younger Nussmeier brother visited Georgia for A-Day, the OC had been in consistent contact with the quarterback since. Here was what Colton said regarding his official visit to Georgia:

“It went good,” he said. “I’ve been there a good amount of times, and I’ve gotten a great feel for it. I really like what they do there.”

Last month, he officially visited UCLA and was also scheduled to pay Arkansas a visit over the weekend. However, that is not happening anymore after he committed to Georgia. Because of that, he is now considered one of UGA’s Class of 2027 centerpieces and is seen as one of the biggest developmental projects that Kirby Smart will be taking on.
