5 Questions Kalen DeBoer Should Answer Ahead Of SEC Media Days Appearance

As Kalen DeBoer is well aware, the football season starts for many fans and players in September. However, for all intents and purposes, DeBoer’s season starts much sooner. The coach will make an appearance this week at the SEC Football Media Days, and at the press conference, he will be subjected to a litany of questions.

Wednesday will begin with the press conference, according to SEC Media. During the conference, plenty of nuggets will be wrung out of the coach, despite every strategic reason to say as little as possible. Expect plenty of word salad and clichés to be thrown around, but he will likely say enough to chew on. Here’s a look at five questions that need to be answered at this year’s presser.

Kalen DeBoer Questions That Need Answering At SEC Media Days

#5 – What Are You Looking For Out of the Running Back Room and Are You Happy With How Things Went With That Unit in 2025?

The running back room’s leading rusher was Jam Miller, who earned 504 yards and averaged 3.9 yards per carry. Kalen DeBoer’s answer will give a big clue to his intentions for the offense going forward. If he expects an improvement, expect the Crimson Tide to run the ball much more often and take plenty of pressure off the new quarterback’s hands.

#4 – What is One Matchup This Season You Have Circled on the Calendar and Why?

This is a question that is likely to be asked, but it doesn’t mean that it isn’t important. Kalen DeBoer’s answer will give a window into the coach’s mindset. If he chooses the team with the best historic record in recent years, he will have plenty of confidence in his team. However, if he chooses a middle-of-the-road matchup and leans into a historic rivalry, it will go a long way toward communicating that he doesn’t expect a dominant season.

#3 – Have You Had Any Interaction or Given Any Tips for Ty Simpson Since He Joined the Los Angeles Rams? If so, What Can You Tell Us?

This would be a fun nugget for both NFL and college football fans. It also might give a hint to how the separation between the two went, and can give a clue to the real relationship between Kalen DeBoer and his star quarterback. If the two talked, it can be fair to conclude things are good. If the two have stayed separate, there might be a deeper story.

#2 – What Does the Wide Receiver Room Look Like This Season without Germie Bernard?

Germie Bernard had his hands all over the offense in 2025 by leading the team in receiving yards. He also saw the ball on multiple carries and even threw a couple of passes. Without Bernard, Kalen DeBoer will have to make a new star. His answer will go a long way toward setting expectations for the unit going forward.

#1 – What Are You Looking For Out of Ty Simpson’s Successor?

The biggest question is what’s next for Alabama’s quarterback room. Kalen DeBoer’s number one rehearsed non-answer is likely set to deflect naming a leader or a likely starter this season. As such, asking about qualities instead of the player will help betray the leader without DeBoer coming out and saying it.

Of course, prying too deep is a fast way for reporters to lose their access, which means this is likely to be a question buried in the middle of the press conference, assuming an inexperienced reporter doesn’t blurt it out at the start.
