After beating the Miami Hurricanes for the College Football National Championship, many believe Indiana Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti does not have anything to prove anymore. He finished 16-0 and capped off an undefeated season with the biggest prize in college football, which means he is now on top of the world. However, because he has nothing left to prove, many believe that he might also be retiring.
After the game, Curt Cignetti himself addressed these rumors and shut them down with a blunt but hilarious retort, saying that no, he is not retiring anytime soon, and that there is one very obvious reason why.
“If I was smart I’d retire. But we need the money,” he said.
While Cignetti did win a natty for Indiana, he may still have a few more years ahead of him and is not as old as the other current coaches in the NFL and college football. That being said, he is set to make $11.6 million for his 2025-2026 season plus a $2,000,000 bonus for winning the national championship. In total, he may be getting at least $14.6 million for all he has done at Indiana.

Cignetti started in 2024 and immediately made an impact, leading the Hoosiers to an 11-2 overall record and a CFP stint but got eliminated in the first round. The very next year, they went 16-0 and won a natty.
Before Cignetti, the Hoosiers have struggled, with the team only going 3-9 overall in 2023. Their worst performance over the last 20 years was in 2011 where they went 1-11 and 0-8 in the Big Ten. In 2021, the team also did not do as well, going 0-9 in the Big Ten and 2-10 overall.
