Patrick Reed recently shocked the entire world when he announced walking away from LIV Golf. Reed dropped an X post where he claimed that after talking with family, friends, and the circuit, he has opted not to sign his next contract. The golfer is now looking forward to reestablishing his membership with the PGA Tour, and speculation about which tournament he can make his return to is unclear right now.
According to the PGA Tour website, Patrick Reed will serve the same one-year suspension that every LIV returning star gets. This suspension will be counted from his last LIV Golf appearance, which was August 2025, before being allowed to play on the PGA Tour. The circuit disclosed this on an X page, revealing that Reed’s one-year suspension will end on August 25, 2026, after which he will be able to play on the tour through sponsor exemption and qualified rounds.
Interestingly, the PGA Tour also informed that Patrick Reed will only be able to compete in regular tournaments on the circuit once he is reinstated as a member in the 2027 season. On January 28, the circuit announced this via an X post, which read,
“Patrick Reed looks to reinstate his membership for the 2027 season. He would be eligible to return to TOUR competition on Aug. 25, 2026.”
If Reed returns directly after these dates, there is speculations that he will compete in the Biltmore Championship Asheville. The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville will host this event as it will also be the tournament of the 2026 PGA Tour FedEx Fall season, beginning September 17. The 2018 Masters winner can only participate in this tournament through a sponsor exemption or Monday qualifiers.
Aside from that, the golfer can improve his world ranking status through the DP World Tour, which will allow him to compete in other tournaments such as golf majors and FedEx Cup events.
What is next for Patrick Reed in the next few months?

Patrick Reed will play on the PGA Tour beginning in September, but he has been looking forward to competing on the DP World Tour before then. He is currently competing in the Bahrain Championship, which is taking place at the Royal Golf Club. Reed is already two rounds into his tournament campaign, and after a solid 1 under par first round, he has shot an incredible 5 under par.
The nine-time PGA Tour winner is tied for 20th place with a total score of 6 under par, ensuring he will easily make the cut for the weekend game. Surprisingly, following this competition, the former LIV Golfer has already scheduled the 2026 Qatar Masters as his next event. This tournament will be played at the Doha Golf Club beginning February 5th, with a total prize pool of €2.75 million.
Reed has already won his first event of the season, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, with a total score of 14 under par. He won easily, with a four-shot lead over second place.
