Patrick Reed has expressed his Ryder Cup 2027 plans after confirming his PGA Tour return. He said that Team USA would be coming up with some attitude and was hopeful of bringing that to the team.
On Wednesday, January 29, Patrick Reed became the second player after Brooks Koepka to exit from LIV Golf in a month. The 2018 Masters champion officially announced that he was leaving the Saudi-backed circuit following his PGA Tour return.
In a recent interview, Patrick Reed spoke in detail about his Ryder Cup 2027 plans.
“We’re going to do everything in our power to get there in Ireland…” he said as per Today’s Golfer. “Ireland’s going to be a little different. We’re going to come up with some attitude and hopefully I’m on that team to really bring it to you all, because I will. It’s just something that I’ve always known how to deal with (fans on foreign soil), especially during Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups.
“It’s bringing back those juices. Any way I can represent my country and play for the United States is always on my radar. They’re not trying to be harmful (the fans). They’re trying to get a rise and have a good time. They’re doing it in the right way. Because of that, now you get the interactions from me then I start going back and forth. Now you have the ‘Captain America against the country’’. I love it,” he added.
Reed has competed three times at the Ryder Cup and has an impressive resume. He made his debut appearance in 2014 and earned 3.5 points for Team USA but couldn’t help the team win. Two years later, he collected 3.5 points again but this time helped the USA post a 17-11 win against Europe. His last appearance came in 2018, where he failed to impress and earned just one point.
Patrick Reed leaves LIV Golf to join the PGA Tour
In the same week as Brooks Koepka’s first event back on the PGA Tour, Patrick Reed also announced his exit from LIV Golf. The star golfer confirmed his comeback to the PGA Tour for the 2027 season.
“After careful thought and consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer compete on the LIV Golf Tour,” he wrote on Instagram. “I am excited to announce that I am returning to the PGA Tour as a past champion member for the 2027 season and am eligible to begin competing in PGA Tour events later this year.”
“I will continue to compete and play as an Honorary Lifetime Member on the DP World Tour, which is something that I am truly honored and excited to do. I’m a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine.”
In his long message, he also thanked LIV Golf, his team 4Aces GC and captain Dustin Johnson.
For the uninitiated, Patrick Reed will be eligible to compete on the PGA Tour from August 2026. Currently, he is playing at the DP World Tour’s Bahrain Championship at the Royal Golf Club in Al Mazrowiah, Bahrain.
