Tiger Woods’ former coach Hank Haney has once again spoken positively about LIV Golf, offering praise for the breakaway league at a time when it continues to face scrutiny and major changes.
The longtime swing coach shared his thoughts on X after reacting to a post that compared LIV Golf’s impact on professional golf to the role the ABA once played alongside the NBA. The post pointed out how PGA Tour prize money has jumped by nearly 80 percent since LIV Golf launched.
Haney reshared the post and added his own view, writing:
“LIV has been a good thing for touring pros.”
Haney, who worked closely with Tiger Woods during one of the most successful periods of his career, has regularly shown support for the PIF-backed league. Tiger Woods won six major championships and more than 30 PGA Tour titles while under Haney’s guidance between 2004 and 2010.
The former coach has also backed players making moves within LIV Golf. Not long ago he publicly congratulated Anthony Kim after Kim earned his way back into the league through the promotions event.
“Congratulations @AnthonyKim_Golf you worked your ass off and totally earned your spot proud of you!” Haney wrote at the time.
While Haney no longer coaches tour players full time, he remains active in the golf world, often sharing opinions and analysis across social media.
Tiger Woods’ex coach Hank Haney has repeatedly voiced support for LIV Golf
Hank Haney’s positive view of LIV Golf isn’t something new. The former coach of Tiger Woods has been open about backing the Saudi-backed league and has often pointed out how players on both sides have benefited financially.
Back in July 2022, when the split in men’s golf was still fresh, Haney shared his thoughts on X, saying:
“My view on the whole LIV/PGA Tour deal is I’m for the players and it seems to me that players on both sides are benefiting financially, LIV players got a lot of money to leave the PGA Tour and they in turn left a lot of prize money for the players on the PGA Tour.”
Over time, Haney has also taken indirect shots at the PGA Tour, especially over how events are now structured. While he hasn’t always named the Tour directly, his posts have made his frustration clear.
In December 2025, Haney reshared a post from Lou Stagner, who criticized the current PGA Tour viewing experience. Stagner wrote that he missed the older format, disliked the smaller fields in signature events, and no longer felt excited to watch every tournament.
“All of this just sucks to be honest. I miss the PGA tour I grew up watching. I don’t like that the landscape is fractured. I don’t like small field signature events. I used to NEVER miss watching an event. Now there are a TON of events I don’t watch a single minute of.”
Haney added his own short reaction:
“A lot of people share these same thoughts.”
Before the recent changes, most PGA Tour tournaments featured full fields of more than 120 players with a standard cut after two rounds. Now, several Signature Events run with around 70 players and offer bigger prize money with limited spots, focusing mainly on top-ranked golfers.
Haney has also questioned whether bringing LIV players back to the PGA Tour would even fix the sport’s declining TV numbers.
“I don’t think if they got rid of LIV, if they put all the LIV players back on to the PGA Tour, if they stopped talking about money, they could do all those things, and I still don’t think their ratings are going to be great.”
The veteran coach has stayed vocal on golf’s changing landscape, even suggesting in 2024 that winning on the PGA Tour had become easier after several top players moved to LIV Golf.
