Rory McIlroy has been actively participating in the DP World Tour tournaments in his first few weeks of the 2026 season. The golfer was initially seen playing in some tournaments that took place in the Middle East, and after that, interestingly, he has recently confirmed adding another massive European tournament to his schedule. DP World Tour announced McIlroy’s confirmation to this tournament via an Instagram post on February 2.
The tournament in talks here is none other than the 2026 Genesis Scottish Open, which will be hosted by the Renaissance Golf Club. The event will be held from July 8 to 12 and will include a massive $9 million prize pool as well as 8000 Race 2 Dubai Rankings points. Interestingly, Rory McIlroy will be a major threat on the course of this tournament, having already won the Genesis Scottish Open in 2023.
McIlroy finished the 2023 Genesis Scottish Open with a score of 15 under par. He was one shot ahead of hometown favorite Robert MacIntyre, who finished second with a total score of 14 under par. Interestingly, MacIntyre shot 6 under par in the final round, while McIlroy shot a total of 2 under par. The DP World Tour also noted this victory in the caption of McIlroy’s announcement Instagram post, as it read,
“🚨 Rory McIlroy is back! 🦁 🏆 The 2023 Champion will be returning to the Renaissance Club, this July, for the #GenesisScottishOpen 🏴 #RolexSeries #FedExCup”
Interestingly, McIlroy reposted this Instagram post on his IG story, informing fans about his involvement in the 2026 Scottish tournament. Talking more about this story, here’s a look at it:

Aside from the DP World Tour, Rory McIlroy is currently also active in the TGL, and there have been various rumors that this involvement has influenced his PGA Tour schedule. The golfer even addressed this in a press conference.
Rory McIlroy discusses his limited involvement in the PGA Tour

During a news conference at TGL on January 26, Rory McIlroy discussed how the league has impacted his PGA Tour schedule. The golfer discussed to minimize the impact of TGL on his PGA Tour schedule how the league started sooner than the original plan. He also mentioned that he is constantly looking to play throughout the year, thus he goes to the DP World Tour during the five months off-season.
According to ASAP Sports, McIlroy stated,
“Yeah, look, Keegan and I were talking about this earlier. We’ve all heard the rumblings without really knowing what’s being said in those rooms and what they’re thinking of. Obviously, I think we’ve all heard starting maybe after the Super Bowl and then going through to the end of August before the football season starts again. That seems very condensed to me.”
The Career grand slam winner later added,
“Yeah, obviously with TGL, as well, maybe not — we’ve tried to do a good job of starting earlier this year, so this season doesn’t run so much into the PGA TOUR season. I think if the TOUR does go to that condensed schedule, it does open opportunities up for others to take advantage of those other five months of the year for sure.”
According to rorymcilroy.com, the 36-year-old will compete in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am Championship, his first PGA Tour event of the season. The event will begin on February 12 with a prize pool of $20 million.
