PGA Tour Champions Pro Makes Bold Tiger Woods Prediction

Speculation around Tiger Woods’ future on the PGA Tour Champions has been building ever since he turned 50, and now one of the tour’s own players believes he knows when that debut could happen.
Tommy Gainey, who won his first PGA Tour Champions title last season, said he expects Woods to tee it up on the senior circuit as early as May. Speaking on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio’s Gravy & The Sleeze, Gainey said he believes Woods will eventually tee it up on the Champions Tour.
“I do think he’s going to play out here,” Gainey said.

Gainey pointed to Woods’ recent sponsorship move as a strong hint. Woods signed a deal with Insperity, a company that also happens to be the title sponsor of the Insperity Invitational, a PGA Tour Champions event held in Texas from May 8–10.
“He signed a deal with Insperity. You could see it on his sleeve, so that’s good news,” Gainey said. “I will let people think maybe what they want to think on that, but that tells me that if he’s able to play, he’s going to play in that one.”
Woods has not confirmed any plans to compete on the Champions Tour yet and continues to recover from injury. He also missed TGL action in January, when his Jupiter Links GC team lost 8–4 to Los Angeles Golf Club.

What Tiger Woods has said about his possible return

Tiger Woods has not put any kind of date on his return, and he has said more than once that rushing back is not an option. Speaking in December 2025 at the Hero World Challenge, Woods admitted his recovery from lumbar disc replacement surgery was moving slower than he hoped.
At the time, he said he had only just been cleared to start chipping and putting again.
“I just got cleared last week to chip and putt, so it’s good,” Woods said. “It’s been slow.”
He explained that the next step was building strength again and slowly bringing rotation back into his training.
“Now we’ve got the OK to start cranking up a little bit in the gym, start strengthening and start doing a little bit more of the rotational component that I haven’t been able to do [and] just letting the disc set.”
Woods joked about playing a heavy schedule across both tours, but quickly made it clear that was not realistic.
“No, just let me get back to playing again, and then I’ll figure out what the schedule is going to be. I’m a ways away from that type of decision, that type of commitment level.”
In recent years, Woods has barely been able to compete. Since his car crash in 2021, he has finished a full 72-hole tournament only four times. He also missed the entire 2025 major season after rupturing his Achilles in March and later underwent another back surgery in October, believed to be at least the seventh of his career.
