Phil Mickelson Sends Five-Word Message As Michael LaSasso Joins His LIV Golf Team

Phil Mickelson has officially welcomed Michael LaSasso to HyFlyers GC after the NCAA champion joined his LIV Golf team ahead of the 2026 season.

LaSasso recently turned professional following his win at the 2025 NCAA Division I individual championship. The move also meant giving up his remaining amateur status including an earned spot in a major championship.

Mickelson reacted to the signing by resharing a team video on social media and summing up the moment in five words.

“We’re kinda crushing right now 🫣”

The video shared by HyFlyers GC on January 22, offered a light look at LaSasso settling into life on the team. Mickelson joked about his role as captain while speaking about the newest addition.

“Michael joining the team has been awesome. As captain, I’ve really taken it upon myself to teach him everything I know,” Mickelson said.

The clip then cut to Mickelson demonstrating how to open a wine bottle using a golf club, before switching to LaSasso returning the favor by helping Mickelson with weightlifting in the gym.

LaSasso joins a HyFlyers GC lineup that also includes Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale, as Mickelson continues to add young talent to his LIV Golf roster.

What Michael LaSasso brings to HyFlyers GC

Michael LaSasso arrives at HyFlyers GC with one of the strongest amateur resumes in recent college golf.

His breakout moment came in 2025, when he claimed the NCAA Division I individual title, a result that also earned him an automatic invitation to the Masters. That spot was later forfeited once he chose to turn professional and sign with LIV Golf.

Explaining the decision LaSasso pointed to the opportunity to learn under Mickelson.

“I’m incredibly excited to join HyFlyers GC and take this next step in my career,” he said. “It’s a rare opportunity to learn from one of the greatest players in the history of the game and I don’t take that lightly.”

Before turning pro LaSasso had already gained experience at the highest level. In 2025, he made five PGA Tour starts including an appearance at the U.S. Open. While he missed four cuts, he posted a tied-44 finish at the 3M Open in Minnesota. His final PGA Tour start of the year came at the Sanderson Farms Championship where he received a two-stroke penalty for improving the conditions affecting his stroke.

Mickelson believes the young golfer has the tools to succeed at the next level.

“Michael is one of the most exciting young players in the game today,” Mickelson said.

“He combines tremendous power and speed with an exceptional feel for the game. Beyond his talent, his personality, work ethic, and commitment to being a great teammate make him a terrific addition to HyFlyers GC.”

LaSasso had already established himself as one of the top amateurs in the world before turning professional. He reached as high as third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in 2025 and transferred to Ole Miss after one season at NC State. He became just the second player in program history to win the NCAA individual title.

His college career also included PING First-Team All-American honors, the lowest single-season scoring average in Ole Miss history at 69.48 and appearances for Team USA in events such as the Arnold Palmer Cup. He also made the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont.
