Fans on social media have reacted to Justin Rose winning the Farmers Insurance Open at the age of 45. The English golfer put forward a strong showing last week at Torrey Pines.
He kick-started the campaign with a bogey-free round of 62 and then carded the next three rounds of 65, 68, and 70. He registered a seven-stroke win in the game. PGA Tour shared a clip of Justin Rose celebrating his win on its X (formerly Twitter) account with a caption:
“A record-breaking performance 🏆 Justin Rose sets the tournament scoring record@FarmersInsOpen at 23-under par.”
Fans jumped into the comments section to praise him.
“Love seeing Rosey bounce back after this week going wire to wire. Class act and good for golf Job JR,” a fan said.
“Rosey,” one more fan said.
“Way to go, Justin,” a fan added.
Justin Rose Opens Up About His Performance at the Farmers Insurance Open
Justin Rose maintained the lead at the Farmers Insurance Open throughout the week and finally won the event. It was his 13th PGA Tour win and the second time at the Farmers Insurance Open. He had previously won the event in 2019 by defeating Adam Scott by two strokes.
After the game, in the post-round press conference, Rose opened up about his performance.
“First and foremost, it’s an amazing thing to win any time any place by one,
by whoever, wherever on any golf course,” Rose said. “But yeah, when you start to think about some of the way this week unfolded, it really is probably incredibly special. Like you say, I think the 36-hole, 54-, 72-hole scoring record.
“The fact I think I was able to kind of build my lead each day, you know, extend my lead each day is something that obviously as a player I’m proud of where you can kind of feel like you can play with that pressure from day one, go wire to wire and kind of keep progressing and keep moving forward. Maybe that’s something that I haven’t been able to achieve before either, so a lot of self-satisfaction in that one,” he added.
Notably, before this, he played at The American Express, where he started with an opening-round 72. He then played the next two rounds of 63 and 73 and struggled to make the cut. But then, he won the event at Torrey Pines, and with the win, he earned $1.7 million and 500 FedEx Cup points.
The tournament also featured Brooks Koepka, who played his first event on tour after his return and settled in a tie for 56th place. He played four rounds of 73, 68, 73, and 70.
