“We Should Go Three days,” – Bubba Watson Pushes Back on LIV Golf’s 2026 Format Change

Bubba Watson recently voiced his dissent on LIV Golf switching to a 72-hole format. The two-time major champion said that they should have gone back to three days and felt it was more exciting than the 72-hole format.

Bubba Watson is set to start his fifth straight season on the LIV Golf circuit. However, the Saudi-backed circuit has tweaked its format and will now have a traditional 72-hole format in their bid for OWGR.

Recently, the two-time major champion was asked about LIV’s changed format, and he didn’t look happy with it.

“No, I think we should go three days, and there’s a reason why,” he said. “I think that as a sprint, everybody stays together,” he said. “When you go four days, you’re going to have some more spread-out leaders, and it just kind of takes away your last round, right?

“And when everybody’s close battling, it puts more people in the mix in the last round, and that makes it better for the fans when there’s chaos happening.”

For the uninitiated, LIV had reapplied for ranking points at the OWGR after their first application was declined a couple of seasons ago. While there hasn’t been any significant progress over the months, this new move is being seen as a step toward agreeing to the OWGR’s terms.

Bubba Watson shares health update after finger surgery

Last October, Bubba Watson underwent minor surgery to remove a growth on his left finger. With the new season set to begin in less than a month, the golf veteran shared a latest update on his health.

“I’m starting to play now,” he said as per the Express U.S Sports. “The finger is getting better. It’s still a little bruised, but hopefully over the next month, I’ll be able to just practice, get some short game in, get the rust off and be ready to go.”

Watson had his best LIV season last year after narrowly escaping relegation for being a captain in 2024. The ace golfer made four top-ten finishes and concluded the season in eleventh place in the individual standings. However, his team, RangeGoats continued to disappoint for yet another season and finished eighth in the team rankings.

Watson was quite honest about his team’s performance while speaking about their preparation.

“It can’t get any worse,” he said. “I think we, the RangeGoats, have finished what, ninth last two years?. So I’m looking forward to trying to challenge that, trying to be better than that.”

The LIV Golf season will begin with the Riyadh event, which will take place from February 4 to 7 at Riyadh Golf Club.
