The World Number 1 Scottie Scheffler has been showing off some impressive skills on the course for the past two weeks. In between, the golfer has not talked about much outside his game, including the major controversy surrounding Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed’s return to the PGA Tour. In a media press conference on Wednesday, February 4, Scheffler addressed these two jumps, claiming that they are good for the game.
Scottie Scheffler said that Patrick Reed and Brooks Koepka are both golf major champions, and their addition to the PGA Tour will make the competition on the tour reach a new level. The World Number One stated that Reed and Koepka will not only be a huge draw for fans, but will also be sponsor favorites. According to Golf.com, Scheffler explained,
“When you look at a lot of the discussions we’ve had and when you look at what a lot of the fans are saying, I think people want the best people playing together again. So when it comes to great players like Brooks or Patrick Reed, Patrick Reed is a major champion, and I think Brooks Koepka has won five majors, so having those guys competing out here is great for the Tour, great for the fans, and great for our sponsors.”
The 28-year-old golfer also stated that with the inclusion of the two former LIV Golfers, his game strategy will stay unchanged, as he will strive to play solid golf each week. He later added,
“I think the last few years — there’s just been a lot of noise, and so I think getting those guys back is another step towards us just being able to play golf again. That’s what I’m looking forward to the most.”
Aside from that, Scheffler also discussed his strong start to the season and how he is looking forward to continuing the momentum in the next tournaments.
Scottie Scheffler compares his last and current season starts

During the same press conference on February 4, Scottie Scheffler described how winning the 2026 American Express has placed his body and mind in the proper place. The golfer also stated that in recent years, he has been looking for a start like this, and as he was hoping not to miss the first few tournaments this year due to hand surgery, as he has done in the past. According to Asap Sports, Scheffler said,
“Yeah, it’s really nice. Definitely a lot easier starting off that way instead of missing the first few tournaments due to hand surgery….It’s nice to get off to that kind of start. It’s nice to feel very prepared going into the season. I feel like my body is in a good spot, my head is in a good spot. We had a really nice break to kind of get ready to come back out here and compete.”
Scottie Scheffler is currently gearing up to compete in his third tournament of the season, the 2026 WM Phoenix Open. The event will be hosted by the TPC Scottsdale beginning February 5.
