Ian Poulter is definitely one of the legendary figures in the golf world, with an impressive resume. He has three PGA Tour events and numerous memorable moments on the golf course. Poulter has also played a significant role in Team Europe’s Ryder Cup history, about which he even discussed in a recent interview. Despite the fact that he is now signed to LIV Golf, the golfer has expressed a desire to be involved in the 2027 Ryder Cup.

Team Europe has been on a powerful run in the Ryder Cup over the previous few years, winning two consecutive tournaments in Rome (2023) and Bethpage in 2025. Following this, the team is now looking to make history by winning three consecutive Ryder Cups in 2027, and Ian Poulter wants to play a role in this. In an interview with TNT Sports, the golfer stated that he still wants to be a part of the squad in any way possible.

The Majesticks GC captain also called out other LIV Golfers who made it into the Ryder Cup, including Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, suggesting that if they can, so can he. According to an X post from NUCLR Golf, Poulter stated,

“I’d obviously still love to have some involvement in the Ryder Cup in some way, shape, or form…From a perspective of wanting to have a helping hand in something I’ve been quite a big part of over the last two decades, yeah, it would be a dream come true if we could be in that position. It’s worked that way for Jon and Tyrrell, and they’ve still accepted those guys in with the Ryder Cup and, hopefully, that relationship can continue.”

During his long career, Poulter has been a part of Team Europe in seven Ryder Cups. He won 5 Ryder Cups and has a total match win percentage of 64% in his 25 career matches. Interestingly, while Poulter is looking to return to the Ryder Cup, he is also interested in playing more on LIV Golf.

Ian Poulter turned 50 this January, making him a senior golfer on the circuit. He discussed this age factor in an interview, noting that LIV Golf has a gentler schedule, which is definitely advantageous to him. He explained that, on top of that, the league gives out a large sum of money, and everyone has a number, after which they give in. According to Today’s Golfer, Poulter claimed:

“Our break now goes from the end of August to the start of February. I mean, amazing, just to have that time off now, where we never had it before. Fourteen events, as opposed to the 28 I used to play. It’s enough money for you to say ‘yes’, and everyone’s got a number. They’ve got the money to spend, and they want to change it for the good, because they want to bring the younger audience.”

Ian Poulter also suggested that LIV Golf’s audience is significantly younger than the PGA Tour due to the more engaging golf format on the Saudi-backed league.
