Scottie Scheffler has become one of the most dominant golfers on the PGA Tour in recent years. He has been in amazing form, and he is currently the reigning winner of two golf majors (the PGA Championship and the Open Championship). Scheffler has been the World Number 1 for quite some time, as his run of being at the peak started on March 22, 2022.
Interestingly, as of January 22, 2025, Scottie Scheffler has been the world number 1 for 140 consecutive weeks. This is a massive feat since, according to a recent X post by Tracking Scheffler, 140 weeks is halfway to Tiger Woods’ 281-week record run for consecutive weeks as the World No. 1. If Scheffler continues his reign at the peak, he can break Woods’ massive record by October 16, 2028.
Talking about Woods’ record, this dominant reign by him was from June 12, 2005, until October 30, 2010. During this time, Woods was a devastating force, winning four major championships and numerous other noteworthy events. Talking about the X post from Tracking Scheffler, it read,
“Scottie Scheffler begins his 140th consecutive week at OWGR No. 1 this week. He is just under halfway to Tiger’s record of 281 weeks in a row– which means he would have that record on Monday, October 16th 2028”
Scottie Scheffler currently has 640 points in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is well ahead of second-place Rory McIlroy, who presently has 417 points. This means there is a pretty good chance for Scheffler to continue his reign as World Number 1 for some more time or maybe even break Woods’ record. Interestingly, while the comparison between Scheffler and Woods has always existed, the golfer was never in favour of them.
Scottie Scheffler does not appreciate comparisons with Tiger Woods

While Scottie Scheffler’s fans frequently compare him to Tiger Woods, the current World No. 1 dislikes the comparison. In an interview with the Golf Channel, Scheffler stated that he dislikes these comparisons because Woods has always been an inspiration to him rather than a competitor. The 29-year-old golfer believes Woods was always in a league of his own and stood out in the world of golf.
According to the Golf Channel, Scheffler stated,
“It’s very silly to be compared to Tiger Woods. I think Tiger is a guy that stands alone in the game of golf, and I think he always will. Tiger inspired a whole generation of golfers. You’ve grown up watching that guy do what he did week in, week out; it was pretty amazing to see.”
The two-time Masters winner later stated that he has always viewed himself as someone who learned golf from Woods. Scheffler added,
“I always found myself just a little bit on the outside looking in, and that’s one of the things I learned from playing with Tiger.”
Scheffler has yet to compete in a tournament in 2026, and his first is set to be The American Express Championship, which will begin on January 22 at La Quinta Country Club.
