Rory McIlroy is inching closer to reaching another unique Tiger Woods world ranking record. The ace golfer has now spent over 789 weeks inside the top ten and is now only behind the golfing veteran.
Rory McIlroy last competed at the Hero World Challenge, where he tied for 33rd. The poor result didn’t affect the Northern Irishman much, as he continued sitting at the second spot.
Now, Rory McIlroy is in his 790th week as a top-ten golfer and has reached second place after surpassing Ernie Els. Woods still sits at the top, having spent 906 weeks inside the top ten. The 15-time major champion also holds the record of spending a whopping 683 weeks at number one.
Woods is currently out of action due to injury, and it is not known when he will make a comeback. Meanwhile, McIlroy has just had a great 2025 season, where he won the Masters and a few more titles. The 36-year-old star still has a lot of time, and Woods’ record is not entirely out of reach.
