PGA Tour suspended professional launches a social media rant after Brooks Koepka's return fails to change his status
A suspended PGA Tour professional publicly voiced his frustration on social media after Brooks Koepka’s return to the circuit failed to bring any change to his own status.
While Koepka has been reinstated under the PGA Tour’s newly introduced returning member program during the Farmers Insurance Open, Wesley Bryan remains barred from competition following a suspension last year.
Taking to X on January 28, Bryan made it clear that Koepka’s comeback has no impact on his case, revealing that the Tour has refused to even hold discussions about lifting his ban.
“Appreciate all the support recently! Unfortunately, Brooks Koepka coming back to the tour has no bearing on my situation. I have reached out and asked for a conversation to potentially uplift my suspension and I have been told that no such conversation will be given….”

Bryan, who won the RBC Heritage in 2017, was suspended after playing in a content creator event linked to LIV Golf. The 35-year-old golfer has never participated in an official LIV tournament.
Koepka, meanwhile, officially left LIV Golf in December. In January the PGA Tour announced that the five-time major champion would be welcomed back after nearly four years in the Saudi-backed league under specific eligibility guidelines.
The returning member program allows former LIV players to rejoin the PGA Tour if they have won a major championship or The Players Championship since 2022, provided they apply before February 2.
Only four golfers meet that requirement: Koepka, 2023 Masters winner Jon Rahm, 2022 Open champion Cam Smith and 2024 U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau. Bryan does not qualify for the program due to his lone Tour victory coming in 2017 leaving him without a clear path back for now.

Hideki Matsuyama raises concerns over Brooks Koepka’s return

Brooks Koepka’s swift return to the PGA Tour has also drawn criticism from major champion Hideki Matsuyama, who questioned the lack of clarity surrounding the Tour’s decision.
Matsuyama pointed out that players were never informed about a special pathway for returning LIV golfers, leaving many surprised when Koepka was cleared to compete again.
“I think it’s pretty amazing that Brooks had the courage to make that decision,” Matsuyama told Golf Digest Japan. “But I’m puzzled that the PGA Tour didn’t explain anything to the players. At the very least, I didn’t know that such a rule was in place.”
The 2021 Masters winner also wondered why the usual one-year suspension for former LIV participants did not apply in this case.
“While there has been a financial hit, what about the non-monetary aspects?” he added. “What happened to the rule that players who participated in LIV were not allowed to compete for a year?”
Koepka’s return comes with penalties including a $5 million charitable contribution and restrictions on FedEx Cup bonuses, Signature Event invites and PGA Tour equity for the next five years.
