Patrick Reed hints at PGA Tour return as LIV Golf future remains in doubt
Patrick Reed has opened the door to a possible return to the PGA Tour after his dominant win at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic raising fresh questions about his long term future with LIV Golf.
Speaking after his four shot victory on Sunday Reed explained that strong performances on the DP World Tour could give him a route back to the PGA Tour as early as 2027. He pointed out that consistent results have always shaped his career path.
“Continue to play out here and be in the Top 10 and be on the PGA Tour next year. I mean good golf takes care of itself. It’s always kind of been that way from day one.
“You play well in high school that’s what got you college scholarships. You play really well in college, that got you sponsors to hopefully playing on tour. And then you play well at Q-School and on tour and that gets you a card on the PGA Tour.
Reed added that if his time with LIV Golf were to end he would lean even more on the DP World Tour to chase one of those top spots.
“If I ended up not playing on LIV this year obviously it would be one of those things that I would be out here playing more on this tour and trying to secure one of those spots in the Top 10, and allow myself to get back on the PGA Tour.”

The former Masters champion left the PGA Tour in 2022 to join LIV Golf and has since competed mainly on LIV along with regular appearances on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour.
He also confirmed there are no talks happening right now with the PGA Tour about a return. Unlike Brooks Koepka who recently rejoined the Tour through its Returning Player Program, Reed does not qualify for that route back because his major victory came in 2018.
His comments, however suggest that a PGA Tour comeback remains very much on his radar if the right pathway opens up.

Patrick Reed shares his thoughts on playing the PGA Tour again

Patrick Reed has also spoken openly about his interest in returning to the PGA Tour, calling it “the best tour in the world” during a recent interview in Dubai.

Speaking with Telegraph Sport at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on January 19, Reed explained that the current return pathway does not apply to him but said it is something he would consider if the criteria were changed.

“It’s not really a decision for me at the moment. I mean, that was for players [who won majors from] 2022 and on,” Reed said. “But I definitely would have to think about it if that number was taken down to 2018.”

When asked directly about playing on the PGA Tour again, Reed made it clear the idea appeals to him.

“Of course. I mean if it’s up to me I’d play everywhere. I’m already playing on three tours so why not add one more?” he said.

“I always enjoyed my time out there on the PGA Tour. Let’s be honest it’s the best tour in the world. Look at what they’ve done in golf. I could see myself playing there at some point again.”

Reed currently plays for 4Aces GC on LIV Golf but he continues to keep a packed schedule. In 2025 alone, he competed in 32 events, more than any other LIV golfer.

Along with LIV’s 14 tournaments he played regularly on the DP World Tour, made starts in all four majors and picked up a win at LIV Golf Dallas. His third place finish at the Masters was one of the highlights of the year.

Those strong results across different tours helped him move up the world rankings climbing from outside the top 70 to 44th by the end of the season.
