Michael Brennan has made a lot of headlines since his disqualification from the Farmers Insurance Open. The tournament is being held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, and Brennan had a wonderful first round, finishing with a total score of 70, two under par. Despite this start, Brennan was disqualified by the PGA Tour for using non-permitted green-reading tools.
Following this massive setback, Brennan recently addressed the issue on Instagram. Through a post, the golfer revealed how it was a bitter lesson for him, and how he was using green reading materials as a result of the work he conducted with a new course data analyst to improve his game. The golfer further said that once he realized this was not permissible, he contacted a PGA Tour official and was disqualified.
A small part of this message by Michael Brennan in this IG post reads,
“After completion of my round, I asked him for clarification of a feature on the green maps. During the clarification, he mentioned that I was not able to transcribe any details on the greens from his diagram into my yardage book. Upon learning this, I reached out to a pga tour rules official, reporting my mistake, and was subsequently disqualified from the golf tournament. While this has been a painful lesson to learn, I am looking forward to the party in the desert next week at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, let’s go! 👊”
So far, 2026 has been a roller coaster for Michael Brennan, with very different performances in tournaments.
How is Michael Brennan doing in his 2026 season so far?

Michael Brennan won his first PGA Tour event, the Bank of Utah Championship, during the FedEx fall season last year. This was a huge triumph for him because he was able to build momentum and consistently make the cut in tournaments. Despite this, Brennan’s first 2026 tournament was a disappointment, as he missed the cut in the Sony Open in Hawaii.
The golfer was unable to put his all into the Waialae Country Club, and his opening round of 75 completely derailed him. Following that, he fired a 69 in the second round, but it was insufficient to help him make the cut, as he finished with a total score of four over par. Following this, Brennan managed to make a decent comeback at the American Express, playing all four rounds.
Michael Brennan shot consistent under-par rounds at Pete Dye Stadium Course, finishing the tournament with a total score of 14 under par, tied for 56th place. He shot rounds of 71, 66, 68, and 69, earning a total of $20,884 from the prize pool. The next tournament Brennan will compete in is the WM Phoenix Open, which will be held at the Stadium Course from February 5.
