Justin Rose has been on fire in his opening two rounds of the 2026 Farmers Insurance Open. The tournament is hosted at the Torrey Pines Golf Course, which is known for its challenging holes and wind conditions. Rose, on the other hand, has been playing like it’s a golfer’s favourite course, and after two rounds, he has a total score of 17 under par, taking the lead in the tournament.
The 45-year-old produced one of the best opening rounds, going bogey-free and 10 under par with ten birdies. Rose built up a massive lead with this round, which he maintained even after the second round. On the Friday game, he shot a 7-under-par round with six birdies, one bogey, and an Eagle. This performance even earned him praise from one-time PGA Tour winner Michael Kim, who remarked on X how outstanding this round was.
Kim noted that a 7 under par score on a south course is already extraordinary, but Justin Rose also managed to record a .42 average, which is simply amazing for him. The golfer’s X-post read:
“Yooo -7 on the south course is insane. Scoring avg is .42 today on the south 😳 Wowza Team 🌹”
Talking of the tournament’s current leaderboard, Justin Rose leads by four shots, as Seamus Power is in second place with a total score of 13 under par. Following this, Joel Dahmen and Max McGreevy are tied for third position with combined scores of 11 under par. This means Rose has a significant advantage when walking over the weekend and can clinch his first win of the 2026 season. The golfer even discussed his round, revealing an unexpected twist about his second round.
Justin Rose reveals his nervousness ahead of the second round

Following his second round, Justin Rose shattered the Torrey Pines Golf Course’s 36-hole record. The PGA Tour conducted an exclusive interview with the golfer, during which he stated that he was nervous before the second round. Rose noted that after the first round, he only saw golfers from the North Course at the top of the leaderboard; he expected the South Course to be a challenge for him.
Rose subsequently remarked that despite his anxiousness, he had a 10 under par score, so he began playing confidently, and things worked out. According to the PGA Tour website, the golfer said,
“I don’t go into a deep dive, but I kind of saw the ‘NC, NC, NC, NC, NC, NC, NC’ on the leaderboard, so by process of elimination, I kind of knew what I was facing today. In some ways, I was using that as extra patience, obviously being 10 under already. It’s a tough situation when you don’t have a great day on the North, and then you have to go and find a score on the South. So I had the added benefit of being able to go and play the South, I thought, with the right mindset to play it, which is kind of respectfully.”
Rose’s last tournament was the American Express, where he missed the cut with a total score of 8 under par.
