Matt Fitzpatrick won the Valspar Championship 2026 by a one shot. The Englishman registered a 3-under 68 in the final round to finish with a 11-under 273 at Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort in Palm Harbor. He beat runner-up David Lipsky in the process to claim his third PGA Tour victory.

It is pertinent to note that Fitzpatrick won the contest and clinched 500 FedExCup points. He banked the winner’s paycheck of $1.63 million from the tournament-record prize fund $9.1 million. Meanwhile, the 10-time European Tour winner, who finished runner-up last weekend at The Players Championship, climbed nine Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) spots from No.15 to sit sixth in the table.

The 31-year-old leapt past the likes of Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa and Hideki Matsuyama, among others to take the new spot. He got inside the top 10 of the rankings for the first time in two years. He now Xander Schauffele on the table, who climbed up two places after a T4 finish at the final Florida Swing event of the year.

For the unversed, Fitzpatrick, owing to the win and his runner-up finish at the unofficial fifth major at TPC Sawgrass, is now fully exempt as a winner on the PGA Tour through 2029. The European Ryder Cupper is exempt to all majors including the upcoming Masters. Ahead of the big event, the in-form golfer stands chance to climb up in the rankings over the next two weekends.

However, he failed to carry the form forward to the new year, starting his 2026 season with a forgettable T63 at The American Express.
