LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has hinted that the league is set to field its strongest competition this season. This comment comes amid the exit of big names like Brooks Koepka as well as reports of several big players turning down offers.
On Friday, January 10, Scott O’Neil spoke to Tee Times during the LIV Golf promotions event. While he didn’t share many details about finalizing the roster, he hinted at an optimistic future for the league.
“We’re looking to have the strongest strength of field in the history of LIV this year, if we can close out these last few players to come across, which would be really exciting,” he said.
Notably, there were reports of LIV approaching the likes of Si Woo Kim, Byeong-hun An and several other Korean stars. The rumors surfaced repeatedly over the weeks but Kim has refuted them all. Recently, it was also reported that Max Greyserman and Akshay Bhatia turned down substantial offers.
Last month, Brooks Koepka announced his exit from the Saudi-backed circuit and made a significant blow to the league. Now, it is reported that the five-time major champion is seeking to return to the PGA Tour and has applied for reinstatement.
With several developments not going LIV’s way, it will be interesting to see how strong Scott O’Neil’s claim stands this year. The LIV Golf 2026 season will tee off next month in Riyadh and the roster will be finalized after this week’s Promotions event.
