The terms between Jon Rahm and the DP World Tour do not appear to be improving anytime soon. Despite being a DPWT member when Rahm joined LIV Golf in 2022, multiple fines were alleged against him as a consequence for withdrawing from European Tour tournaments. These fines currently number roughly $3 million, and the Spanish golfer has already stated that he will not pay any of them.

The DP World Tour recently extended a settlement agreement for LIV golfers who have received similar penalty charges. According to rumors, golfers who accept these settlement offers will be able to keep their DPWT memberships this season while playing with LIV Golf. Several players, including Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig, and Elvis Smylie, have taken this contract.

While these huge stars have reinstated their membership with the DP World Tour, Jon Rahm refused to pay any settlement money. The deadline for this settlement agreement was February 20, and because Rahm rejected it, his future participation in major biennial tournaments such as the Ryder Cup is jeopardized. NUCLR Golf reported about this on their X account, as a small part of their post read,

“LIV Golf star and 10-time DPWT winner Jon Rahm has reportedly rejected a settlement deal that was offered to LIV Golfers by the DP World Tour, which had a deadline of yesterday to accept. Rahm is not among the golfers that the Tour has agreed to grant conditional media releases to for the 2026 season, putting his Ryder Cup future in question.”

Rahm even discussed this settlement just a few weeks ago, saying that he is happy for other golfers as the DP World Tour is working for their betterment.

Jon Rahm highlighted how penalties are due to “politics of the game”

In an interview with Golf Week on February 2, Jon Rahm addressed what was going on with the DP World Tour and the LIV golfers. There, he said that many great names, such as David Puig, have talent and can win on the DPWT as well, but they should not be penalized because of game politics. Rahm added that if the DPWT can make it possible for players to participate in both tours, it will be a fantastic opportunity for them.

According to Golf Week, the 10-time DP World Tour winner explained,

“I think the example of players like Tom (McKibbin) or David Puig, who’s now a winner on the European Tour, who just chose the best path possible as young players, shouldn’t be penalized because of the politics of the game. The fact that they’re looking at a positive way to figure it out, I think it’s only good for us, and I think it’s good for the DP World Tour, as well.”

Moving forward, it is unclear whether Jon Rahm will play on the DPWT more frequently or merely in the four tournaments that he has been permitted to participate in over the last few seasons.
