So far, Scottie Scheffler has had a tough time in the 2026 Genesis Invitational. The golfer got one of the poorest performances in the event’s opening round as he shot 5 shots over par after the first 10 holes, with three bogeys on holes 2, 6, and 10, as well as a double bogey on 8. Following that, thanks to darkness and rain, the round was postponed, and the World No. 1 received a small break, allowing him to gather himself and make a small comeback.
At this point, there were doubts that Scottie Scheffler might not be able to make the 36-hole cut, but the World No. 1 managed to record two birdies in the remaining holes of Round 1 on the second day, finishing with a total score of three over par. Interestingly, the World No. 1 maintained his form in the second round, shooting two birdies (holes 1 and 9) and two bogeys (holes 2 and 7) during the front nine holes.
Scottie Scheffler then made three birdies on holes 10, 11, and 17 during the back nine holes to finish with a score of three under par. After this, his 36 holes total score came to an even par, allowing him to climb a lot on the leaderboard and end tied for 42nd place, just making the tournament cut for the weekend game.
Scheffler was in fantastic form leading up to this tournament, having finished in the top four in the previous seven tournaments. Among these 7 tournaments is Scheffler’s first tournament win of the 2026 season, which came at the American Express. He won the tournament with a total score of 27 under par, giving him a comfortable 4-shot lead. Interestingly, the 28-year-old golfer was also on track to shatter a huge record at the 2026 Genesis Invitational, which now appears almost impossible.
Can Scottie Scheffler shatter Tiger Woods’ legendary record?

Tiger Woods is one of the most legendary golfers in history, with numerous records to his name. Interestingly, one of his records was made in the 2005/6 season, when he finished in the top four in eight straight events, something that had never been done before him. Scottie Scheffler, on the other hand, is on the verge of breaking this record, having already finished in the top four for seven consecutive tournaments.
The 2026 Genesis Invitational was supposed to be his eighth, but it appears that Woods’ record will remain intact for the foreseeable future. The World No. 1 is now tied for 42nd position after 36 holes, nine strokes behind fourth place. If he wants to tie Woods’ historical record, he’ll need to have a strong two rounds. Currently, Marco Penge and Jacob Bridgeman are tied for the lead in the tournament with a total score of 12 under par.
Round 3 of the 2026 Genesis Invitational will start on February 21, and Scheffler will be in the third tee group. He will begin the round on Hole 1 at 10:45 AM ET, alongside Matti Schmid.
