Jon Rahm is surely one of the, if not the, biggest face for LIV Golf, and he recently discussed one of the circuit’s biggest tournaments of this season, LIV Golf South Africa. This event will mark the first time the Saudi-backed league has hosted a tournament on the African continent, and while many are concerned about whether or not the tournament will be a success, Rahm believes the crowds will be fantastic in Steyn City.
In a press conference with LIV Golf’s media at the Hong Kong Golf Club, Jon Rahm emphasized how South African fans know how to enjoy the game and have fun. He added that there is music all over the place and that because there is so much fan enjoyment, the game is more fun for golfers as well. Rahm even stated that he would encourage attending the event for any money.
According to an X post by LIV media, Rahm explained,
“Everything I know about South African fans tells me that it’s going to be rowdy like here. They know how to have fun, which makes it a lot more fun for us. I can’t wait…Like, I know you’rewatching golf and the music is going, people are having fun. It’s definitely a lot more enjoyable. And even if you don’t play golf, you’re definitely going to have a really good timeand a lot of points. I recommend going for any money.”
Interestingly, Jon Rahm’s statement has also cleared up a big concern about his forced participation in this tournament, which was raised by World No. 2 Rory McIlroy. The Career Grand Slam Winner stated in an interview,
“I’m sure Jon doesn’t want to go to South Africa next week, but he’s going there.”
Apart from the fans, Rahm also talked about the golf course in South Africa and how he thinks about it.
Jon Rahm describes The Club at Steyn City as a “beautiful” course

In the same interview with LIV Golf Media, Jon Rahm discussed The Club in Steyn City, Johannesburg, noting that the course is incredibly beautiful and has some of the best design. Rahm explained that, while he has never visited the golf course, he has seen some images and claims that some of the holes are like party holes because of how enthusiastic the fans are around them. He stated:
“I’ve seen some pictures of the course. It’s beautiful. I’ve seen some pictures of how the build-out is going to be. So there’s definitely one hole that I know is really kind of like a party hole here. Honestly, you have to think of a live event, a little bit less like a golf tournament. It’s a much more lively crowd.”
For the time being, Rahm will be seeking to put on another strong performance at the Hong Kong Golf Club, as he has done magnificently in his two LIV outings this season, finishing solo second both times.
