Concerns about President Donald Trump started to grow exponentially after a red mark was spotted on the right side of his neck during a White House appearance on Monday, March 2. While there was much curiosity over what this mark could be, new reports have revealed that it could be tied to Trump’s habit of often visiting his golf clubs for a round of golf.
Dr. Dustin Portela, a dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon who recently spoke with the Daily Beast about the spot, claims that the red mark is caused by chemotherapy lotion. Portela explained how this cream is used in the cases of precancerous lesions to prevent them from evolving into a serious condition such as skin cancer. Portela explained the situation, even claiming that he has seen multiple patients with the same problem, stating,
“This is a type of cream that I use frequently in my patients, my older patients, who are golfers, who are boaters, who are just very active outside…He is the picture-perfect case of a very fair-skinned, light-haired individual who spends a lot of time outside, who’s at high risk for getting skin cancer…I’ve seen this kind of reaction hundreds, if not thousands of times, on my patients.”
Dr. Portela further claimed that these types of lesions are typically caused by sun exposure to the skin. He suggested that this could be related to President Donald Trump’s hobby of golfing, which requires him to be out in the sun for extended periods of time. Interestingly, a report from Trump Golf Tracker backs all this, claiming that since beginning his second term as President of the United States, Donald Trump has played golf for 97 days, accounting for 23.7% of his time in office since January 2025.
Aside from this, the White House Physician also talked about the treatment of President Donald Trump’s neck mark.
How much longer can President Donald Trump bear the red mark on his neck?

According to the Daily Beast, the White House Physician discussed the red mark after Monday, indicating that President Trump is really using a standard chemotherapeutic cream that he will take for the next week. Furthermore, Dr. Sean P. Barbabella further stated that the President may continue to have this red mark for a few days after discontinuing his cream usage. Dr. Barbabella noted that,
“President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment, prescribed by the White House Doctor.”
The neck mark has not been cleared by the White House doctors as a precancerous lesion. According to speculation, the cream that Donald Trump is taking to treat the probable pre-cancerous lesion on his neck is a combination of vitamin D and 5-fluorouracil, one of the most often used treatments for pre-cancerous lesions.
