Every golf fan across the world is eyeing when Tiger Woods will make his comeback to competitive tournaments. The legendary golfer has not been seen playing for a year, as initially he took his name back due to personal reasons (his mother’s death), but later he suffered a ruptured Achilles Tendon in March 2025, keeping him out of the game for an extended period of time.
Later, in October 2025, Woods underwent disc replacement surgery in his lower back, which has prevented him from returning to competitive golf. The golfer has admitted that, while he has been cleared to putt and chip, he still has a long way to go before making his comeback on the course. As a result, Woods will not play in the 2026 Genesis Invitational, making it the second consecutive year he will not compete in this tournament.
Even though he will not be playing, Tiger Woods will be attending as the host of the Genesis Invitational at the Riviera Golf Club. The 50-year-old golfer will be present at the tournament to give interviews, attend conferences, and fulfill his other duties. As the host, he has also chosen Sahith Theegala to get into the field of the tournament through the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption.
Aside from that, Woods admitted in 2025 during the Hero World Challenge that his back recovery had been slower than expected. The golfer reported encouraging results and hopes to return to the game soon, despite a gradual recovery from his back injury. While he is absent from the game, one of his records will be put on the line at the 2026 Genesis Invitational.
Scottie Scheffler might shatter Tiger Woods’ huge record at the 2026 Genesis Invitational

Scottie Scheffler has been in red-hot form, and he has been unstoppable in recent competitions. Interestingly, Scheffler did well last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishing tied for fourth with a total score of 20 under par. Interestingly, this was his seventh consecutive tournament where he finished in the top four.
In the history of the game, only Tiger Woods has managed to finish in the top four in eight consecutive tournaments. He has done it twice in his career, in the 2006/07 and 2007/08 seasons. Scottie Scheffler may become the second golfer to complete this mammoth challenge if he finishes in the top four at the 2026 Genesis Invitational.
While Scheffler had the possibility to tie the record, Tiger Woods’ eight-tournament streak of top-four finishes was far more dominant. Woods won seven of the eight tournaments in a row, and he finished in second place in the last one.
