The 2026 Genesis Invitational, which will be hosted by Tiger Woods, is going to kick off this week. The tournament is one of the richest on the PGA circuit, with 72 golfers competing for a total prize pool of $20 million. After 36 holes, only the top 50 golfers, or those with a difference of less than 10 shots from the lead, will make the cut to play during the weekend.
Talking more about the 2026 Genesis Invitational host, the Riviera Golf Club in California will be organizing the tournament this season. The Riviera is one of the world’s most historic golf courses, having been established in 1926 and being nearly 100 years old. The Genesis Invitational has been held at the course for almost 60 years. Unfortunately, due to widespread wildfires in Los Angeles, the tournament was moved to Torrey Pines Golf Club in 2025, although the tournament will return to Riviera in 2026.
The Riviera Golf Course’s 18-hole course has a par of 71 and spreads over 7,300+ yards. Interestingly, the course presents a significant challenge to golfers, with tight fairways, tough bunkers, and poa annua greens. This means that only precision golfing techniques will work on it. Because of its competitive nature, the course has hosted several golf majors, including the 1948 US Open, the 1983 and 1995 PGA Championships, and many more.
The Riviera Golf Course is also scheduled to be the host for the 2026 US Women’s Open and golf for the 2028 Olympics. Golfers competing in the 2026 Genesis Invitational will need to be extremely cautious to counter the Riviera Golf Course. The last time the tournament was held at this golf course, Hideki Matsuyama won with a total score of 17 under par.
In 2025, when the Genesis Invitational was hosted by the Torrey Pines Golf Course, Ludvig Aberg was able to outperform the field as he managed to secure a win with a total score of 12 under par, winning by only a shot margin.
