LIV Golf’s latest wildcard entry, Bjorn Hellgren, opened up about Brooks Koepka and Henrik Stenson after he secured his spot on the circuit. The Swedish golfer played in the 2026 LIV Golf Promotions event last week and settled in second place.
In the post-round press conference, he talked about his game and other LIV golfers. He was asked whether he had followed the Saudi league events in the last four seasons. The 35-year-old golfer spoke about his longtime friends Koepka and Stenson.
“Quite a lot,” Hellgren said. “I’m good friends with Brooks. Brooks and Henrik are people I really look up to. Unfortunately I won’t join them this year, but I followed it quite a lot, and I was quite close to playing the first one in Centurion.
“It’s always been a goal of mine for the last four years to get on here. Thanks to the Asian Tour, without them, I wouldn’t be here. It kind of shows to all the guys, too, that are in my position back home that you might not be playing on the PGA TOUR, but we’re traveling the world and grinding it out. A few good weeks and then you’re in it. That’s pretty amazing,” he added.
Notably, Bjorn Hellgren and Brooks Koepka played together for the Florida State Seminoles men’s golf team from 2011 to 2013. However, while Hellgren is preparing to play on LIV Golf in 2026, Koepka has made an exit from the league. The five-time major winner announced last month that he had withdrawn from the Saudi league and reportedly reapplied for PGA Tour membership.
LIV Golf’s Latest Wildcard Entry Shares Excitement to Play on Saudi league
Bjorn Hellgren is excited to start his journey on LIV Golf for the 2026 season. In the post-round press conference of the LIV Golf Promotions event on Sunday, he talked about his performance and also shared his excitement for the upcoming season of the league.
“I can’t believe it right now,” Hellgren said. “It’s hard to comprehend. I’m very fortunate to be able to play with those guys sometimes on the International Series. But I’m probably going to be very nervous when we’re standing there in Riyadh on the first event. It’s awesome. It’s so cool.
“I think it shows to all the guys that were in my position or are in my position that you’re only a few weeks away from changing your life. I won a couple of weeks ago in Saudi, and that got me on to this thing. It’s crazy,” he added.
Bjorn Hellgren started his campaign at the LIV Golf Promotions event on Friday in the second round. He carded a round of 66 and secured his spot for the final two rounds.
However, he then struggled on Saturday and played a round of 70. He bounced back in the final round with a 64 and settled in second place at 6-under. The other golfers who secured their spots on LIV Golf after last week’s event are Richard T. Lee and Anthony Kim.
