Justin Thomas has vented out his frustration on the NCAA just a couple of days after reigning champion Michael La Sasso joined the LIV Golf. He said that the decisions by the NCAA had ruined college sports and called for immediate fixing.
Thomas is a sixteen-time winner on the PGA Tour and played college golf for the University of Alabama. He also had a great college golf career, winning the Haskins Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award.
On Tuesday, January 20, La Sasso was signed by Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC as the fourth member of the team. A couple of days later, Justin Thomas slammed the NCAA for their recent decisions.
“I’m so frustrated by what’s going on in NCAA right now,” he wrote on X. “The decisions they’ve made have seemed to ruin college sports and everything they’ve always stood for. Above my pay grade, but at what point do schools and coaches say enough is enough? Hope it all gets fixed ASAP.”
Last year La Sasso had won the NCAA individual championship and had earned the Masters Tournament invite. However with the decision of joining the LIV, the 21-year-old golfer will have to forfeit his remaining college eligibility and the Augusta invite.
Is Justin Thomas competing at the American Express 2026?
The PGA Tour is in La Quinta this week for the American Express 2026. The second event of the season began on Thursday, January 22, but Justin Thomas hasn’t kicked off his season yet.
A couple of months ago, Thomas underwent a microdiscectomy in a New York hospital, which pushed him out of action for several months. On Thursday, January 22, he shared the latest fitness update on Instagram.
“10 weeks post surgery today… feeling good!” he wrote. “Recovery has gone well. I’m slowly building back my strength and conditioning in the gym, and also hitting wedges/short irons. Little victories and patience have been the biggest part of the process. Taking it slow and listening to how I’m feeling each day.
“I’m looking to come back competitively at some point during the Florida swing. I know how important it is to get this injury behind me so that I’m only looking forward over the course of the season,” he added.
Justin Thomas had a great last season, where he ended his three-year-long title drought after claiming the RBC Heritage. Besides that, he also posted eight top-ten finishes, including three runner-ups.
