Shane Lowry’s campaign at the 2026 Dubai Invitational took a sudden turn on Hole 18 of the Final Round. The golfer was comfortably ahead of the field in the tournament, but things did not go his way on the final hole. Lowry hit a bunker and, while trying to get the ball out, shot it into the water, resulting in a double bogey.
The golfer finished his final round with a score of 2 under par, bringing his total to 8 under par, tying for 3rd place. NUCLR Golf reported on Lowry’s Hole 18 with a caption that stated,
“🚨😔🏌️ #DISASTER — Leading on 18, Shane Lowry hit his bunker shot across the green and into the water, making double bogey to end his chance at winning the Dubai Invitational @LowryTracker”
Interestingly, in the comments section of this post, fans began to point out that Shane Lowry is the deserving golfer to be choked on such a large platform. Some supporters even believed that after choking, Lowry would have blamed a fan who was on the course’s sidelines. One fan even compared Lowry to Rory McIlroy, arguing that both players cannot play well.
Talking more about these fan comments, here’s a look at a few of them:
“He sucks like his friend Rory. Both are terrible.” One fan stated.
“Beautiful to watch 😍,” one fan passed a sarcastic comment.
“I’m sure he blamed a nearby fan,” one fan pointed out.
“What a choke job. Not surprising coming from him. Always has had a smidge of choke in him.” another fan stated.
“Couldn’t happen to a better person……….. Sarcasm off” one fan claimed.
Following the competition, Lowry discussed the double bogey and how dissatisfied he was with it.
Shane Lowry remarked that his last hole was a “disaster”

Shane Lowry stated in an interview that it was his first event of the season, and that losing a win was a major setback for him. The golfer highlighted how the double bogey was disastrous and how crazy the game is. Lowry argued that he cannot do anything but move on.
According to The Mirror, Lowry stated,
“That was a disaster, that’s what that was. What can you do? You have to just learn from it and move on, lads. This game is nuts. I’ve just started my 18th season on tour and I’ll never figure it out. I tried my best, did everything I could and hit the wrong club up the last. And that cost me a play-off. I was just trying to hit a soft 9-iron. If you hit a wedge at the flag and it comes out a little soft, it goes right into the water.”
The 38-year-old golfer also claimed that next week, he would remember this messeup and look to avenge him. The next tournament the Irish golfer is going to take part in will be 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic that will kick off from January 22 at the Emirates Golf Club.
