Brooks Koepka’s long-awaited return to the PGA Tour came to an end on Thursday, January 29, at the Farmers Insurance Open. Fans had high hopes for the golfer as he entered Torrey Pines Golf Course. Despite the hype, the golfer was unable to give it his best, finishing Round 1 with a total score of 73, one over par. Due to this rough start, he is tied for 101st position, 12 shots behind the leader.
This was not what fans expected, and the golfer addressed his round during the post-round conference, revealing that he was nervous prior to the round. Flushing It Golf reported on this in an X post, which read,
“After an opening 73 at the Farmers Insurance Open on his PGA Tour return, Brooks Koepka said he felt nervous playing out there.”
In the comments section of this post, fans began to point out that Brooks Koepka’s poor form was undoubtedly due to LIV Golf. Some fans argue that he should retire because now that he has made money and returned, he will understand what true competition is in the golf industry. One admirer even mentioned Rory McIlroy, saying that in the Irish golfer’s terminology, Koepka is simply moving a needle.
Talking more about these fans’ comments, here’s a look at them:
“He sucks. Should retire.” One fan stated.
“Left for the money… but the competition is on the PGA Tour, it’s not the same Tour… he’ll find out,” one fan pointed out.
“Almost like he finally has the opportunity to play in relevant golf tournaments where it actually means something again 🫢” another fan commented.
“I guess according to Rory, Brooks is “moving the needle” 😁🙄,” one fan claimed.
“lol. Sure.” one fan gave some sarcastic comment.
Aside from that, Brooks Koepka also mentioned in the same press conference that he wants to play well and that his son is his main motivation to improve.

“Just because I care. I think I’ve fallen back in love with the game. And honestly, watching my son play a little bit and wanting to be able to see him watch me, or I guess want him to watch me play well and realize how much this game’s given me, how fun it is, and how cool it is to just be out here.”
Brooks Koepka will be pairing up with Ludvig Aberg and Max Homa in the second round, and they will start with the back nine holes. This group will play at 10:38 a.m. local time.
