Jon Rahm has aggressively opposed all of the fines imposed by the DP World Tour on him. The European Tour claims that Rahm, who was a member of the circuit, jumped to the LIV Golf without breaking his membership, and that he will be fined for missing all the conflicting tournaments. Rahm, on the other hand, refuses to pay the fees, asserting he will do whatever he wants.
The fine grew over time, and it is now estimated to be approximately $3 million. Jon Rahm refused to pay the fees and has filed a lawsuit against the DP World Tour. Interestingly, a subsequent source stated that Rahm, despite not changing his opinion on the fines, has opted to withdraw his appeal. This means that the LIV Golfer may be unable to compete in the upcoming 2027 Ryder Cup, since the DP World Tour will be forced to suspend him.
Flushing It Golf reported about this story with an X post that read,
“Jon Rahm has officially withdrawn his appeal against DP World Tour fines but has indicated to the tour that he has no intention of paying them. If the DP World Tour is to follow their own rules, they will now likely be forced to suspend him, and Jon Rahm will be ineligible for Ryder Cup selection in 2027 at Adare Manor.”
Jon Rahm has played an important part for Team Europe in Ryder Cups, and even last year at Bethpage Black, he showed considerable dominance on the course. His absence from the event next year will even jeopardize the team’s prospects of winning the Cup three times in a row.
Why is Jon Rahm unwilling to pay the fines to the DP World Tour?

The DP World Tour formally announced a settlement deal with the LIV players a few weeks ago, in which the players can renew their DPWT membership while competing in the Saudi-backed league after paying a specified amount of penalties. Interestingly, eight prominent names agreed to accept the circuit’s settlement offer, but Jon Rahm refused to pay any fine in order to return to the tour.
In an interview, the golfer stated his views, noting that all of these issues are caused only by the game’s politics, which he passionately opposes. According to Golf.com, he explained,
“I don’t know what game they’re trying to play right now, but it just seems like in a way [the DPWT is] using us to — they’re using our impact in tournaments and fining us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer. It’s just, in a way, they’re extorting players like me and young players that have nothing to do with the politics of the game. So I don’t like the situation, and I’m not going to agree to that.”
Jon Rahm is currently competing in the LIV Golf South Africa, and after 36 holes, he is tied for fourth with a total score of 11 under par. He is three strokes behind the leader and has a chance to win the entire tournament at the Club in Steyn City.
