LIV Golf is currently hosting its first tournament on the African continent, the LIV Golf South Africa. The tournament is taking place at the Club in Steyn City, Johannesburg, and so far, it has been quite competitive. While the course is advantageous for some golfers, several big names are still trying to figure it out, making the leaderboard somewhat of a roller coaster after 36 holes.

Two rounds of the event have been completed, and it was recently revealed that LIV Golf has received a significant boost for the next two rounds of the South Africa tournament. According to an official statement provided by the circuit, all live tickets for Rounds 3 and 4 of the tournament at Steyn City have sold out. A small part of the released statement read,

“LIV Golf has announced that tickets for Saturday and Sunday of LIV Golf South Africa have officially sold out. Gates, Hospitality, and the Fan Village at The Club at Steyn City will open at 8:15 am on Saturday, with the shotgun start at 9:35 am. Festivities continue with live concerts from St. Lucia at 4:15 pm and Calvin Harris at 5:30 pm at the Castle Lite Concert Stage (all tickets include the live concerts).”

Apart from this, the Saudi-backed league also released a time note for the fans in which they highlighted when the fans need to be on the course. Here’s a look at that as well:

    • 6:00 am: Menlyn Park and Clearwater Mall Park and Ride Lots open
    • 7:00 am: All Park and Ride Lots open
    • 8:15 am: Gates, Hospitality, and Fan Village open
    • 9:30 am: Live broadcast begins
    • 9:35 am: Shotgun Start for Round 3
    • 4:15 pm: St. Lucia at the Castle Lite Concert Stage
    • 5:30 pm: Calvin Harris at the Castle Lite Concert Stage

This type of support from the African fans was somewhat expected even before the tournament when the Southern Guards GC captain, Louis Oosthuizen, hyped the event in a pre-tournament press conference.

The Southern Guards GC is an all-South African member team, and in a press conference on Tuesday, captain Louis Oosthuizen disclosed that they had been trying to bring a tournament to South Africa for quite some time. Oosthuizen emphasized how the government provided significant support for the circuit and how fans had responded by turning out in large numbers on the course.

According to Front Office Sports, Oosthuizen stated,

“For a while, we’ve been trying to figure out how we can get it done, get a tournament here. Realistically, we were thinking of getting it hopefully in ’28, maybe in ’27. But yeah, we had some great support from the minister and from Steyn City and from everyone, and I think we all yesterday drove through the fan village, walked through Club 54, walked through the golf course a bit, and we were extremely proud.”

According to reports, more than 90,000 tickets were sold so that fans could attend the Club in Steyn City. This made the LIV Golf South Africa one of the circuit’s highest-attended events since its inception in 2022.
