“It’s Not ‘Market Rate’” – Analyst Reacts to Bryson DeChambeau Reportedly Seeking $500M To Stay on LIV Golf

Amid reports that Bryson DeChambeau is seeking a $500 million LIV Golf contract, analyst Brandel Chamblee believes the star golfer is asking for more than his market value. The veteran analyst added that the Saudi-backed league is paying players to normalize its ties with the government.

Recently, James Corrigan of The Telegraph Sport reported that DeChambeau was seeking at least $500 million to extend his LIV contract for four years. If the Saudi-backed circuit agrees to the terms, the star golfer would surpass the likes of Lionel Messi, LeBron James and Shohei Ohtani.

One PGA professional, Cutts Benedict, wrote on X that DeChambeau was overvaluing himself and was far from what he thought about himself. Brandel Chamblee seconded Benedict’s opinion, stating that LIV didn’t generate this much revenue to justify this cost.

“It’s not ‘market rate’ as LIV revenue does not justify paying him a huge contract. The Saudi’s are paying him to normalize and glamorize a relationship with a government with a horrible human rights record. If LIV were privately funded, this debate would not exist,” he wrote.

Bryson DeChambeau reacts to Brooks Koepka’s LIV exit

During the LIV Golf press conference ahead of the 2026 season, Bryson DeChambeau was asked about his move after Brooks Koepka joined the PGA Tour. The two-time major champion didn’t clarify his future plans but was clear about his current status.

“Yeah, I mean, look, I’m contracted through 2026, so I’m excited about this year,” he said.

For the uninitiated, the PGA Tour has opened a return window for LIV Golf professionals until February 2. However, the window is not open for all the pros, as only the players who have won the Players Championship or a major since 2022 will be eligible to make a comeback. Only DeChambeau, Cameron Smith and Jon Rahm fall under this criteria.

DeChambeau has won three times on the LIV Golf circuit and also won the U.S. Open in 2024 while being contracted with the Saudi-backed circuit. Last year, he won the LIV Golf Korea and also had strong results in majors, making three top-ten finishes, though he missed the cut at the US Open.
