1x PGAT Winner Surprised As Chris Gotterup Wins WM Phoenix Open 2026

Chris Gotterup’s final round heroics helped him win the WM Phoenix Open 2026. However, for most of the day, Hideki Matsuyama looked set to win until he choked on the 18th. The turn of events left Michael Kim surprised, who couldn’t believe the result.

On Sunday, February 8, Chris Gotterup earned a win at the WM Phoenix Open 2026 over Hideki Matsuyama. This is Gotterup’s fourth win on the PGA Tour and second in four starts this season.

Following Gotterup’s win, Michael Kim shared his amazement on social media.

“What happened while I got checked in at the airport??? How did Gotterup win?? Haha,” the one time PGA Tour winner wrote on X.

Kim also had a decent week as he put on a good performance at the TPC Scottsdale. The 32-year-old golfer shot 71, 65, 72 and 67 over the four days to tie for fourth.

“I really wasn’t expecting,” – Chris Gotterup reacts to his win at the WM Phoenix Open 2026

During the post-round interview, Chris Gotterup shared his opinion on winning the WM Phoenix Open 2026.

“Definitely different than my last couple,” he said. “I went in with a chance for sure to start the day. Today I really wasn’t expecting to be, I would have had to go shoot a really good round, which I did, but even during the back nine, I was like, all right, just keep climbing the board, try to get into a good spot.”

‘I knew I needed to birdie 18, and I had some, let’s say, maybe a little luck involved in that shot, but to come out on top and do it the way I did in the playoff was awesome,” he added.

The purse for the WM Phoenix Open 2026 was $9.6 million, and Gotterup won $1,728,000 for his victory.
