The Miami Hurricanes are struggling to create any kind of offense and when the opportunity came to score some points before halftime, they failed. Hurricanes kicker Carter Davis missed a 50-yard field goal attempt, leaving Miami scoreless entering halftime with 10-lead Indiana lead.
This was Davis’ fourth missed postseason field goal (3/7). He only missed two across 12 regular-season games (14/16).
Fans slammed the kicker for his continuous shortcomings this playoffs.
“Carter Davis can’t be trusted. Mario should’ve went for it,” one fan commented.
“No doubt. Can’t run him out there for a 50 yarder on 4th and 2 the way he’s been in the playoff,” one fan added.
“This game is over, Miami won’t be able to score 10 points in the second half,” another fan reacted.
“Mario settling for a 50 yard FG on 4th and 2 with Carter Davis ain’t gonna cut it,” one fan wrote.
“Carter Davis. Quit football. 7/13 on attempts from 40+. Kicking ain’t your thing,” one fan commented.
“carter davis really beat out bert auburn?…yikes” one fan joked.
Carter Davis Redeems Himself In Second Half As Miami Keeps It Close
The Hoosiers jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first half with a successful 34-yard field goal in the first quarter and a one-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. As mentioned above, Carter Davis missed the field goal that could have made it 10-3 entering halftime.
Miami responded in the second half, with Fletcher rushing for a 57-yard touchdown, followed by a successful extra point kick by Davis. Indiana made it 17-7 soon after.
To start the fourth quarter, Miami cut the deficit to 17-14 after Fletcher rushed for another touchdown. Davis once again made a successful extra point kick.
The Miami Hurricanes placekicker is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He transferred to Miami from Florida Atlantic University before the 2025 season. He had a memorable season-opener vs Notre Dame where he drilled a 47-yard game-winning field goal.
In 2025, Davis converted 17 of 23 Field Goals and made 49 of 49 extra points, taking his total points tally to 100 points. His longest successful field goal was from 53 yards.
