Fans Slam “Draconian Rules” as Minnesota QB Drake Lindsey Gets Arrested for Minor Charge

Minnesota Golden Gophers quarterback Drake Lindsey finds himself in trouble after he was arrested early Friday morning in Fayetteville, Arkansas, his hometown. Lindsey is facing misdemeanor charges related to underage possession of alcohol and use of a fake ID.

A local bar staff member suspected Lindsay of carrying a fraudulent ID and informed the authorities. Lindsey reportedly admitted to using the fake ID and drinking alcohol before arriving at the venue.

In Arkansas, the legal age to consume and purchase alcohol is 21 years, meaning Lindsay was just a few months short ot the limit. However, Arkansas has a “zero-tolerance” policy for underage drinking.

Fans slammed the arrest, with one calling it “draconian rules of the US”:

“This is nothing. Just stupid draconian rules of the US.”

By draconian rules, the fan meant that the laws and regulations are extremely harsh. The word comes from Draco, who was a lawmaker in Greece around the 7th century BC.

“Bro nobody cares about this every single college kid has drank. 21 or not. The law is stupid anyways and is a way to try and control kids. Every other country it is 18,” one fan added.

“We should be giving medals out for doing this. Most gen z kids are too anxious to leave their house,” one fan joked.

“Why 21 USA? Always found it hard to understand…” one fan wrote.

“Common now, let the Boys be Boys,” one fan added.

Minnesota Aware About the Arrest of Drake Lindsey

Drake Lindsey was booked around 1:13 a.m. at Washington County Jail and was released roughly 7 hours later by posting a $470 bond. His court appearances are set for June 1 and June 29.

In the wake of his arrest, the University of Minnesota stated that they are aware of the arrest of their quarterback and they will handle the situation internally.

“We are aware of the situation and will address it internally,” a Minnesota spokesperson said via ESPN.

Lindsey is easily Minnesota’s most promising quarterback in recent years. The 6-foot-5 star started all games in 2025, throwing for 2,382 yards and 18 TDs. He led Minnesota to an 8-5 record, the most by a freshman in school history. In the spring practice conducted last month, he passed for 89 yards on 4 of 5 attempts.
