Deion Sanders is one of the best athletes in American sports history. He is the only athlete to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series. Sanders won two Super Bowls, made six First Team All Pro, eight Pro Bowl, and won the 1994 NFL DPOY.
In Major League Baseball, he played in the 1992 World Series. Sanders has a stacked resume as an athlete, and when he transitioned toward coaching, he had a good run with the Jackson State Tigers from 2020 to 2022.
However, the same can’t be said about his stint with the Colorado Buffaloes. There’s a lot of pressure on Sanders to bring the program on track. However, the Buffaloes’ head coach is dealing with another set of problems.
“We’re doing things that have never been done, and that makes people uncomfortable. When you see a confident Black man, talking his talk & walking his walk, coaching 75% African Americans in the locker room, that’s kind of threatening; they don’t like that. But guess what, we’re gonna consistently do what we do,” he said.
Sanders said that he’ll continue to do things his way, and he’s going to get “comfortable” very soon. Davon Morgan, head coach for Bluefield State University, echoed a similar sentiment, claiming that he faces the same discrimination.
“He didnt tell any lies! @DeionSanders I’m a Head Coach and deal with the same junk!!” he wrote.
In his first season with the Buffaloes, Sanders’ team finished 12th with a 4-8 overall record, 1-8 in the conference. The following year, the Buffaloes showed some potential.
Even though it was far from a successful season, 9-4 overall, 7-2 in the conference, and losing the Alamo Bowl is the best season Sanders has had. The 2025 season was disastrous, finishing 15th with 3-9 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
Deion Sanders’ Words of Encouragement for Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia emerged as the greatest player in the history of the Vanderbilt Commodores football program. Even though the Commodores don’t have a very rich legacy, Pavia brought an energy that had never been seen before.
After throwing for over 3500 yards and accumulating 39 touchdowns in his final season, Pavia became a Heisman finalist this year. He ended up losing to Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza, but the impact he made was real.
Despite that, Pavia remained undrafted at the 2026 NFL Draft. After that, Sanders posted an encouraging message for him.
“I BELIEVE IN YOU MY MAN! Stay strong and don’t let up. Show them what time it is and never allow them to forget. Much Love & God bless you,” he wrote on X.
Pavia’s 5’10 frame and a polarizing personality were seen as possible reasons why teams didn’t draft him.
