Unsurprisingly, 2024 will be a big change to the Big 12, with Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah joining in on the fun. They will be following BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston who joined in 2023. Likewise, 2024 will also see Texas and Oklahoma depart the conference for the SEC, as college football conferences experience the biggest shake-up in memory.

Colorado will still be playing some old foes despite their transition to the new conference. They were originally a founding member of the Big 12 before leaving in 2011 to join the Pac-12, so they will also be acquainted with some old friends.

After opening their season opener at home to North Dakota State, the Buffs will play two rivalry games.

On Sept. 7, Colorado will play Nebraska, a rivalry game that stretches back to 1898. Nebraska finished 5-7 in Matt Rhule’s first season in charge as they look to turn themselves into a powerhouse once more. Nebraska leads Colorado in the all-time series 49-21-2. But, Colorado is on a three-game winning streak, having beaten the Cornhuskers 36-14 in 2023.

The Buffaloes will then travel to face their intrastate rivals Colorado State, in The Rocky Mountain Showdown. The game is scheduled to take place in Fort Collins, Colorado, where the Buffs will be looking to raise the Centennial Cup for a seventh consecutive time.

After their first three out-of-conference matches, Colorado will enter conference play. They will play Arizona in their first conference game in the Big 12. Colorado will also continue their rivalry with the Utah Utes as they transition to their new home.

Later in Colorado’s 2024 football schedule, they will meet old rivals in Baylor, Kansas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State. Colorado has a history with all four teams dating back to when the Buffaloes were first in the Big 12. The most exciting of those matchups is possibly against Oklahoma State, which will have Sanders face off against the enigmatic Mike Gundy.
