Brendon Lewis has been central to Memphis’ offense all season, carrying the unit with his dual-threat ability and experience. As the Tigers prepare to face NC State in the Gasparilla Bowl, attention has turned to Lewis’ health after he dealt with a lower-body issue late in the year.
The Gasparilla Bowl closes the season for both programs and offers a chance to finish on a high note. Memphis enters the matchup without head coach Ryan Silverfield on the sideline and with several defensive injuries, making quarterback stability even more important.
The Tigers have three major injuries, and those players will sit this game out. Travis Burke, Jaidyn Denis, and Chauncey Logan Jr. will not play. The Wolfpack, on the other hand, is severely understaffed.
Five of their players will not be participating, whereas four others are injured and will not step on the field. This creates some advantage for the Tigers. However, if Lewis doesn’t play today, it’ll be a big blow for them.
Lewis was limited at points down the stretch of the regular season but continued to start and lead the offense. Heading into kickoff, he has not been ruled out and is expected to play. There have been no late reports indicating a setback, and Memphis is preparing as if Lewis will take the first snap.
While bowl-day changes can happen close to kickoff, all indications point toward him being available for the Tigers. His five-year college experience will be crucial for the Tigers in their quest to end the season on a high note.
