Brendan Sorsby Future: Where Can Former Texas Tech Player Go Now?

After weeks of battling with the NCAA and the Big 12 and getting an injunction to play in the 2026 college football season, Brendan Sorsby is now headed to the NFL Supplemental Draft.

The former Texas Tech transfer was initially set to face a permanent ban from participating in college sports after allegedly betting more than $30,000 dollars on various teams, including his own, during his time at Indiana.

However, after multiple petitions filed by Sorsby and the Red Raiders, the Lubbock County Court reinstated the senior-year quarterback’s eligibility and denied the NCAA permission to interfere with his on-field activities till the end of the season.

Sorsby faced new hurdles on Monday, as the Big 12 filed a complaint seeking preliminary action and an injunction to enforce its bylaws against Texas Tech if they let Sorsby take the field. This move was also backed by multiple attorneys general, including from Kansas, Utah, and Oklahoma.

Texas Tech and Brendan Sorsby were left with two possible outcomes; continue with the 2026 season and face the Big 12’s sanctions including a possible exclusion from the Big 12 Championship game or head to the NFL and put the case to rest.

After legal wrangling about his NCAA eligibility, Sorsby — regarded as a first-round talent — now could be the highest-drafted supplemental pick in decades.

Sorsby has now opted for the NFL’s supplemental draft. While a date for the draft is not yet clear, it is expected to be held toward the later part of July, per ESPN. The draft would also be the first one held since 2023.

What Are Brendan Sorsby’s Options In The Supplemental Draft?

One possible destination for Sorsby in the NFL Supplemental Draft would be the Miami Dolphins. While the team recently signed Malik Willis to lead the franchise after Tua Tagovailoa’s departure, adding Sorsby to the roster would provide a healthy competition for the former Green Bay Packers signal caller alongside Quinn Ewers.

While the Cleveland Browns also remain a possible destination for Sorsby, newly-appointed head coach Todd Monken brushed off the scenario claiming drafting the former Cincinatti quarterback would be a ‘slippery slope.’

“I don’t think we’re in a position to want to go down that road. That’s my opinion, that’s not [general manager Andrew Berry’s]. I like the quarterbacks that we have. I think that’s a slippery slope when you go down that, irrespective of talent, right? (Todd Monken On June 2, 2026)

The New York Jets are another candidate for Sorsby given the quarterback situation after moving on from Justin Fields after just one season. The team recently signed Geno Smith to lead the offense, with fourth round pick Cade Klubnik as the backup. Should Geno Smith not recover from his form from last season, Sorsby could be a potential answer for Aaron Glenn.
