Brendan Sorsby is no stranger to comebacks, but the type of comeback needed in his eligibility case is very different from just needing to make a late score in the fourth quarter. Sorsby, who has become one of the biggest stories in college football, is on his last chance to salvage a 2026 college football run in the fallout of gambling revelations to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.
Sorsby has received plenty of reactions from fans and analysts around the country over the story, including one sports journalist. Trey Wallace posted on X on Tuesday in favor of the NCAA, calling for the quarterback to get the book thrown at him.
“Brendan Sorsby gambled on his own team, yet the NCAA is somehow the bad guy in this case,” Wallace posted. “He broke the most obvious rule in college athletics. This time, it’s not on the NCAA. Time to face the consequences.”
Sorsby sits on the edge after three years in college football within the NFL window. While he might have had the luxury of choice without the gambling controversy, he is one wrong court decision away from seemingly having no choice but a desperate bid for the NFL. Whether that happens in 2026 or 2027 will be his choice.
Analyst Predicts Lifelong Struggle For Brendan Sorsby
Trey Wallace wrote in his Tuesday opinion piece that Brendan Sorsby’s troubles will not end at the NCAA’s edge, or even the NFL’s edge. It will follow him past his sports career for the rest of his life.
“I have all the sympathy and empathy in the world for someone who is battling addiction, which I think we can all agree on,” he wrote. “I truly hope that Brendan Sorsby continues getting the help he needs to overcome this problem, and if it’s truly this bad, that he will be fighting for the rest of his life in some form or fashion.”
Sorsby is not the first to struggle with gambling, and he will not be the last. He also will not be the last to watch his or her career take a sudden downturn because of the addictive nature of what some would argue is a casual hobby taken too far. Will Sorsby get another snap on a football gridiron?
