Kansas City Royals reliever Daniel Lynch IV hurt his own teammate, Nick Loftin, during a play in the ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
The White Sox laid down a bunt with the bases loaded. Lynch charged the ball and made a quick throw to third base to get the lead runner. However, the throw struck Loftin in a sensitive area before he could make the play.
The Royals’ infielder immediately went down in pain. Trainers rushed onto the field and a cart was brought out as well. After several minutes of treatment, Loftin was able to leave the field slowly under his own power.
The unfortunate play is doing the rounds on social media, with fans chipping in with hilarious reactions.
“That looked personal,” one fan commented.

Royals Struggled At Plate Against White Sox in 2-1 Loss
Despite a strong start from Michael Wacha, tossing 7.2 innings for just one earned run, including six hits, one walk and seven strikeouts, the Royals failed to provide run support, leading to their 50th loss of the season.
The game didn’t see any scores make the box score until the seventh inning. Davis Martin tossed 4.1 scoreless innings for the White Sox. Finally, in the seventh inning, Carter Jensen hit an RBI single against Sean Newcomb to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. The White Sox tied the game in the bottom half with the help of Braden Montgomery’s RBI fielder’s choice. Wacha reached 1,500 career strikeouts before exiting.
In the final inning, just moments after Loftin was hit in the groin, White Sox’s Jacob Gonzalez came up with a walk-off RBI single off reliever John Schreiber to seal the 2-1 win.
