Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras became emotional during the post-game interview after a strong offensive night, dedicating his performance to his home country, Venezuela, which was severely impacted by two major earthquakes on Wednesday and Thursday.
When asked by the sportscaster on the field about his message to all Venezuelans and the prayer on his WBC gear, the backstop explained that he was praying to God to help the people of his homeland during these difficult times.
“That I love them and to forgive me for not being able to be there right now to help them. That I’m always going to give the best version of myself for them… It’s just words of inspiration for the people back in my country. Sending a message to God to not abandon us, to not abandon the people and our family back there in this moment of time,” Contreras said via the interpreter.
Take a look at Contreras’ towering two-run HR from Friday night:
The Brewers swept the Reds earlier and began their seven-game homestand with a 6-2 victory over the Cubs in Friday night’s series opener. They have a 50-29 record for the season, comfortably leading the NL Central standings, 7.5 games ahead of the Cubs in second place.
William Contreras is Having a Decent Season With the Bat

Milwaukee is 7-3 in its last ten games and looks in impressive form on both sides of the ball. They will complete their three-game series against the Cubs on Sunday and then host the Reds for another crucial intra-divisional series to conclude their seven-game homestand.
