Senior MLB analyst Jeff Passan said the Los Angeles Dodgers could acquire two-time AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal if they negotiate a favorable trade with the Detroit Tigers before the trade deadline. Passan discussed the possibility during the recent episode of ESPN’s Get Up alongside host Mike Greenberg.
Passan backed his statements by highlighting the World Series champions’ active trading history, including players such as Manny Machado, Trea Turner, and Max Scherzer. He noted that although some critics believe the Dodgers, who hold two titles in a row and boast a star-studded roster, might not need additional acquisitions, they still possess all the necessary assets to pursue Skubal.
“If there is a team that’s going to go get Tarik Skubal and has both the incentive and the ability to do so, it is the Los Angeles Dodgers. And I know people don’t like hearing that the Dodgers have won two consecutive championships. They already have a roster that’s loaded with stars, but they can pretty much do whatever they want at this point,” Passan said.
“You know, we’ve seen past trade deadlines where the Dodgers have been extremely aggressive. They’ve gone and gotten Manny Machado. They’ve gotten Max Scherzer and Trey Turner. They’ve gotten the biggest guys. But this time around, they could play it like they did last year, where there were no major trades and they were still the best team in baseball.”
The reigning champions are in top form this season, boasting the best overall record with 61 wins and 36 losses across both leagues. Despite ending the first half with a shocking home series sweep by the Diamondbacks, LAD possesses the talent and firepower to bounce back emphatically after the All-Star break.
