“Seattle Lineup Is Nasty”; “Dumbest Move By Cardinals” – Fans React As Team Acquires All-Star Brendan Donovan In Three-Team Trade

The Seattle Mariners have acquired All-Star infielder/outfielder Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals, per MLB insider Jeff Passan.

The three-team trade saw the Cardinals receiving right-hander Jurrangelo Cijntje, center fielder Tai Peete, outfielder Colton Ledbetter and two competitive-balance Round B picks. Meanwhile, the Rays received third baseman Ben Williamson.

Fan reacted to the trade with several lauding the Mariners for potentially coming out winner in the trade.

“Seattle lineup is nasty,” one fan commented.

“This is the dumbest move the Cardinals have ever made imo,” another fan added.

“Donovan gives the Mariners an immediate upgrade in contact hitting, on-base skills, and defensive versatility across the infield and outfield. That directly addresses their biggest weakness. St. Louis gets volume and upside. Cijntje is the headliner with frontline potential, and the extra picks deepen a retooling pipeline,” one fan commented.

“Damn that’s a salty move,” one fan reacted.

“Mariners FINALLY land their guy ..Brendan Donovan to Seattle.. that lineup just got way more annoying to pitch to,” one fan wrote.

“Congratulations mariner fans,” one fan wrote.

How Brendan Donovan Would Fit With Mariners?

Brendan Donovan is coming off his best year in the majors, earning his first All-Star selection. He hit .287 with 10 home runs, 50 RBIs and a .775 OPS. In four years MLB career, he has batted .282 with a .772 OPS, 40 home runs and 97 doubles. His standout defense earned him a Gold Glove in 2022.

He joins an already strong and intimidating Mariners lineup, including Julio Rodríguez, Randy Arozarena and Cal Raleigh. Donovan’s arrival should provide Seattle with lineup flexibility and depth in 2026. He could potentially replace Jorge Polanco, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the New York Mets, in the Mariners lineup.

Donovan has a one-year, $5.8 million contract remaining and he’ll turn free agent after the 2027 season.

This move suggests that the Mariners are looking to capitalize on a successful 2025 season. They almost made it to the World Series before the Toronto Blue Jays defeated them in ALCS Game 7.
