Donald Trump Involvement, Catholic Pitcher Social Media Ban & More: Inside Nationals’ Executive Firing After Hidden Cam Scandal

Recently, the Washington Nationals drew attention after a hidden camera recording of their director of community relations, Sean Hudson, went viral on social media. The clip, with over 4 million views, shows Hudson discussing internal issues, such as an alleged social media ban on a Catholic pitcher, dealings with defense contractors, and efforts to appease President Trump.

Following the controversy, the organization ended Hudson’s employment to defuse the situation that had escalated on social media. Hudson did not respond to numerous attempts to contact him by phone or through messages sent to his social media accounts, some of which have since been deleted.

Ahead of the Nationals’ series opener against the San Diego Padres on Friday, the team’s president of business operations, Jason Sinnarajah, reflected on some of the decisions the organization has made since the issue came to light.

Sinnarajah also denied certain claims about the ballclub, including that it is anti-Catholic, that it selectively discourages players from facing the media, and that it keeps tabs on working people’s search histories across different divisions.

Nationals’ President of Business Operations Apologized to Pitcher Trevor Williams

Sinnarajah apologized to Trevor Williams. The purported video shows Hudson saying the team refrained from using Williams on social media after Williams criticized the Dodgers for hosting the Sisterhood of Perpetual Indulgence in 2023. The event drew criticism from some Catholic groups for mocking their religion in distasteful ways.

“We feel awful that he has been dragged into this situation and hope this hasn’t been a distraction as he gets ready to get back on the field, which we’re excited to have him back on,” Sinnarajah said.

“Trevor’s a valued member of the organization; we’ve been proud to support him both on and off the field, including recognizing him last year as our Roberto Clemente Award honoree,” he added.

The Nats, with a 29-29 record for the season and currently in the middle of the NL East division, began their six-game home stand with a series-opening loss to the Padres on Friday. After the three-game series against the Padres, Washington will host the Miami Marlins for an intra-division series starting Monday.
