Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. went viral on Sunday for catching New York Mets slugger Carson Benge’s fly ball in right field. The moment came at the top of the second inning with bases loaded.
The Mets rookie hit a towering fly ball to right field, where Rincones was stationed. The Phillies rookie initially tracked the ball with his sunglasses resting on top of his cap, but as the ball climbed into the bright afternoon sky, he did a neat trick to not lose sight of the ball.
Rincones calmly grabbed the sunglasses off his hat and put them on while the ball was still in the air. He relocated the fly ball, completed the catch, and went on to throw toward the infielder. However, in the meantime, Juan Soto tagged up from third and scored on the sacrifice fly, giving the Mets an early 5-0 lead.
The impressive grab went viral on X, with SNY Mets’ below video post receiving 6.2 million impressions.
Fans on Instagram were really impressed with this play, with one fan pointing toward the Mets’ bad luck.

Mets Take Down Phillies Finally at CBP
The Mets were able to win the decider against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday. This was their first road series win since early June and their first series victory at Citizens Bank Park since August 2022.
Mets rookie right-hander Nolan McLean was the biggest reason, as he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 10. On offense, Francisco Lindor hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added an RBI single later in the game to finish 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two walks. The shortstop’s explosion at the plate saw the Mets take a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Other than Lindor, an RBI double from Luis Torrens, a sacrifice fly by Carson Benge, and an RBI single by Juan Soto also played a role.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s lone run came on Alec Bohm’s seventh-inning solo home run.
The win improved the Mets’ record to 42-58 on the season as they still sit last in the NL East standings. They will now head to Milwaukee for another three-game road series before returning home to host the Los Angeles Dodgers.
