MLB Rumors Explode: Insider Predicts $100M Deal For Pirates’ Konnor Griffin; Michael Kopech Linked To Yankees

There’s a good possibility of Konnor Griffin signing an extension with the Pittsburgh Pirates before Opening Day. Meanwhile, the New York Yankees could be eyeing right-hander Michael Kopech.

    Let’s check out these details.

Insider Predicts $100M Deal For Pirates’ Konnor Griffin

According to MLB insider Jason Mackey, there’s a 60% chance that Konnor Griffin could sign an extension with the Pirates before Opening Day, and the contract could exceed $100 million.

Griffin went ninth overall in the 2024 MLB draft by the Pirates. He played for the Bradenton Marauders to begin his first professional season and was promoted to the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Moreover, he represented the franchise at the 2025 All-Star Futures Game at Truist Park. By August, Griffin was with the Altoona Curve. In 122 games, Griffin hit .333 with 21 home runs, 94 RBI, and 65 stolen bases and earned Minor League Player of the Year.

It’s understandable why the Pirates want to lock down such talent even before his MLB debut.

    Michael Kopech Linked To Yankees

The Yankees are running back basically the same team, but that doesn’t mean their bullpen doesn’t need help. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees are reportedly eyeing left-handed free agents Danny Coulombe and Jalen Beeks. Moreover, in right-handed bullpen options, former Dodgers pitcher Michael Kopech is also linked to the NL East team. New York has shown interest in the right-handed reliever.

Given his ability to throw hard and fill high-leverage innings, Kopech could be well used by the Yankees.

Kopech began last season on the injured list because of arm inflammation. He didn’t rejoin the roster until June, and after that, he made eight scoreless appearances, recording eight strikeouts in seven innings.

In July, he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He returned in September, but due to knee inflammation, he was shut down soon.

After spending the last two seasons with the Dodgers and a part with the Chicago White Sox, Kopech will hope to get signed before Opening Day.
